My older sister is getting married in April, and as the matron of honor for her wedding I’ve been heavily involved in planning her wedding shower and bachelorette party. Since I am now living across the country from my sister, we decided that instead of flying west multiple times this spring, I’d arranged a longer trip to attend the wedding shower and bachelorette party on back-to-back weekends.
I’m not sure if this arrangement ultimately saved me time in the airport though… Because of connecting flights, a quick side trip to my office in Oakland (I normally work remotely), and the bachelorette weekend in Las Vegas, I took 8 different flights in the eleven days that I was away. Despite all of these flights, I had a great time on my trip out west, and wanted to share a few photos and a recipe from the wedding shower…
Since my mom and I were in charge of the wedding shower favors, we of course made them edible and decided they should build on the shower’s tropical theme. Knowing we were limited on time to assemble the favors, we decided to make a simple tropical trail mix of macadamia nuts, cashews, white chocolate chips, dried mango, pineapple, and cranberries (I realize cranberries are not tropical fruit, but they added some nice color to the mix). To make the favors a complete package, I printed up some little labels and cut some ribbons for the bags.
We also asked all of the shower guests to bring a copy of their favorite recipes and put together a recipe book for my sister (I really wanted a copy of the delicious recipes for myself too). The shower ended up being a really fun event, and the guests all seemed to enjoy the party and taking home the little bags of tropical trail mix.
Tropical Trail Mix
We doubled this recipe to make enough trail mix for about 17 small favor bags (between ¾ cup and 1 cup trail mix per bag).
- 6 oz unsulfured and unsweetened dried mango, diced
- 6 oz unsulfured and unsweetened dried pineapple, diced
- 6 oz dried cranberries
- 8 to 10 oz dry roasted and salted macadamia nuts
- 8 to 10 oz dry roasted and salted cashews
- 5 oz white chocolate chips
In a large bowl, mix together the mango, pineapple, cranberries, macadamia nuts, cashews, and white chocolate chips.
